Has Google Reader Just Gone Real Time?
Pubsubhubbub is something I have been playing with the last few weeks and excited to see this announcement. I have been using Feedburner to accelerate my feeds but the results have been spotty. I originally attributed this to a configuration error on my part, but I after some testing, I think it has more to do with the hubs I am pushing to/pulling from than the config itself. This is a good article from my friends at The Next Web.
All that user-generated content? 95% is malware, spam
This is interesting and disturbing. An excerpt from the Ars article…
“One way that hackers are infiltrating the Web is by “SEO poisoning,” or using SEO techniques to pump up the ranking of malicious websites in search results to make them appear legitimate. On average, 14 percent of top search results for a given “hot” topic on Google led to a malicious website.”
Review: Firefox 3.6 brings joy to Web devs, not just users
New Firefox 3.6 article at arstechnica. So far, I am not impressed by any speed increase. In fact, it seems slower to me than 3.5.x, and not sure if that is due to caching issues or just that Chrome is really still that much faster in everyday use. Will do more testing today and tonight and comment here if things improve.
Google talks Chrome OS, HTML5, and the future of software
Your current computer is a somewhat unpleasant device: you put it on your lap, you sit on the couch, you start working, it starts burning your leg, you start running out of battery.
Outstanding interview on ArsTechnica. The above quote is by Matthew Papakipos, Engineering Director for Chrome OS. A good read with lots of insight into Chrome OS and why it matters.
Seesmic Launch Event much more?
New Firefox 3.6 preview
In preparation for tomorrow’s release of Firefox 3.6, here is a video they have produced highlighting some of the new features. If the speed issue is indeed resolved (every recent version of the browser in the last 12 months has gotten slower and slower) this could be the most important update yet for the Mozilla team.
Tomorrow is going to be a busy day as Seesmic also has their new Seesmic Look release party at 9AM to noon EST.
MailBrowser Keeps Gmail Contacts, Attachments Local and Handy – Gmail – Lifehacker
An interesting looking toolkit for gmail use. Have not had a chance to try it out yet, will be a weekend project.
Seesmic Acquires Ping.fm
I read this story and watched the video last night with much interest. I wish Loic and his team well and congratulate them on this acquisition. I have been following Seesmic for a while now, using all their products and generally drinking their cool-aid on a regular basis. (Loic – where is my iPhone app man!) But I started thinking about what this might mean for one of my other favorite apps – Posterous. Ping.fm does a lot of the same stuff in a (sorry) less useful way. Sure its great to send an email to auto-post to multiple social networks. But I can do that and so much more with Posterous. Plus I can share with my Posterous community and have it became the “center” of my digital life. But when you combine Ping with Seesmic’s applications, something interesting can now happen. Garry, if you see this post, would love to get your take on this merger and where you see Posterous heading in comparison. Lots of interesting possibilities.
AppMakr Makes iPhone App Creation a Snap
Wow, this is pretty cool. And Mashable has a promo, so you can get this app for $49 till 1/6 (if I read that correctly). This is pretty cool and something that has been needed for a while now. I may have to get a copy and that discounted price.
Why Twitter Will Endure – NYTimes.com
By carefully curating the people you follow, Twitter becomes an always-on data stream from really bright people in their respective fields, whose tweets are often full of links to incredibly vital, timely information.
Nice article on Twitter from NY Times. The quote above sums up my exact feeling on why Twitter matters.
